Mulch Garden
The best mulch garden will use tree mulch and the leaves, with the branches and the trunks if you have a large enough wood chipper. Pile it on thick 3-6 inches deep to create a good barrier that will hold the moisture and prevent the weeds from coming up. If you are putting the mulch garden down the first time you might also consider placing cardboard or newspaper down first, then place the mulch on top of it to kill the weeds. The cellulose from the cardboard and newspaper breaking down will also attract earthworms. The mulch will start breaking down adding nutrients to your soil.
Do not till or mix your mulch into the soil!!!
This will bind up the nitrogen in the soil. You must allow your chips to breakdown naturally with the mitochondria fungi and bacteria in the soil and the wood. As long as the the mulch stays damp or moist.
If you do not have a wood chipper you can sign up for CHIPDROP on your computer and they will drop off a load when they are in your area.
Always keep the soil covered with mulch. The mulch is the food. Mulch feeds the mitochondria fungi and bacteria, the mitochondria fungi and bacteria feed the plants. Keep the soil moist and covered and the earthworms will soon move in, that’s when you will know for sure that you have done your job as a master gardener.
Soon you will not have any need for organic fertilizer.
Never ever use chemical fertilizers they will kill all your mitochondria fungi and bacteria turning your soil to sand again.
